OUTREACH EDUCATION WITH THE SKULL INDEX CIC
As well as providing an extensive database of high quality images and measurements of vertebrates, the volunteers of The Skull Index also work with museums, community events and schools to provide a pop up museum with our handling collection. Animals from Walruses, Lions, to tiny Shrews and Mice. Catering an outreach stall to different curriculums or themes is super fun, and we hope to provide these for many years to come!
ARTS COMMUNITY?
Are you an arts or culture-based community that does creative workshops?
Our specimens may be beneficial for observational drawing sessions or other reference material.
Our two Directors, both freelance illustrator based in Leicestershire and Durham County, hope to collaborate with community workshops to enable communities to use skulls as creative references in person. Something a bit different compared to our usual outreach stalls!
Observational drawing helps hone hand-eye coordination, as well as aid in understanding visual perception. Our skulls could be combined with other objects like fruit, pottery, and plants to create a great observational setup for people of all ages to sketch. In June 2026, we were invited by Charnwood Eco Hub to do a Natural History Observational drawing workshop, and it went down very well!
Our specimen photos on our species database are also suitable for art references for non-commercial projects.
